"When an investigation comes to be made, it will be found that every single thing we are doing in the work is exactly what is being done in Nature... the difference being that we are learning to do it consciously." F. Matthias Alexander
The Alexander Technique teaches a person how to discriminate among kinesthetic impressions that are most closely identified with habit and learn to eliminate those elements of behavior that interfere with constructive response. The implication of using the teaching as a practical means of identifying unrecognized patterns of behavior and choosing not to reinforce them expands the whole range of learning, interaction, and human potential.
"My technique is based on inhibition, the inhibition of undesirable, unwanted responses to stimuli, and hence
it is primarily a technique for the development of the control of human reaction."
F. Matthias Alexander
Within our bodies, there are specific mechanisms of postural reflexes that assert balance moment by moment. When they are not interfered with, they provide us with ease, grace, and fluidity of movement; moreover with a sense of purpose and advantage. When we interfere with these governing reflexes, we must compensate, which results often in an overall lack of well-being. However, when we cease to interfere and instead allow our inherent design to fulfill its function we experience support as we go about our daily tasks and interactions with others.

WHAT TO EXPECT FROM A LESSON
A lesson is about you. Generally a lesson is arranged by phone, and often by e-mail. You will be asked why you feel you want to come in for a session.
WHAT TO EXPECT TO PAY FOR A LESSON
One should expect to pay for sessions in the Alexander work a fee proportionate to an individual teacher's level of experience and expertise. Teachers affiliated with ATCC all charge different fees. Fees range from lessons with Tommy Thompson $150 for forty-five minutes/$100 for one half hour) to $60- $100 for forty-five minutes with other teachers. Rates might vary depending upon a given student's resources, age and need. In cases where a person will clearly benefit from the work, who cannot meet Tommy's fee, and Tommy believes he will be of value to the student, he will adjust his fee scale to accomodate the student.
